Manhole rehabilitation & renovation
Manholes are an integral part of every sewer system
and therefore should be maintained to the same level
as the pipework.
M&D drainage offer a unique manhole renovation and
repair system which can be applied quickly,efficiently
at a fraction of the cost of rebuilding a damaged/porous
manhole.
M&D Drainage are probably one of the only drainage
companies in the UK to offer manhole renovation in conjunction
with CCTV surveys and trenchless technology.
In most cases external manhole repairs can be carried
out without having to shut down the plant or divert
the trade waste materials and production can be carried
on uninterrupted.
The materials used can be sprayed on or trowled by
hand depending on the size of the manhole being repaired.
Suitable for both brick and concrete manholes make
the materials used suitable for a number of different
applications and locations.
CASE STUDY
The problem
As part of a general maintenance shutdown at one of
the largest creameries in Scotland M&D were called
upon to renovate a number of manholes which had suffered
severe corrosion from the cleaning materials used to
scour stainless equipment.
A check on the ph levels within the trade waste system
were found to be within a range of 0 to 14 at different
times of the day and temperatures of up to 70 degrees.
The solution
After much research M&D Drainage found the solution
with a manufacturer in Germany.
Three of the severely corroded manholes were internal
and vital to the production therefore had to be repaired
within a 24 hour planned shutdown period.
After the initial rebuilding of the manhole base a
primer solution was applied and allowed to dry, this
was followed by three other cementitious products to
build up the walls of the manhole to a depth of 15mm
beyond the original profile.
A final coat of resin was applied which when dry gave
a shiny surface. This inhibited the cleaning chemicals
which were mixed with product residue from clinging
to the surface of the manhole.
As each type of food manufacturer may use different
abrasive cleaning products, temperatures and varying
production methods M&D Drainage send all chemical
analysis of the trade waste systems back to Germany
to confirm the suitability of the repair materials and
if required adjustments can be made.
